Surfside Beach & Murrels Inlet, SC Real Estate

Located just south of Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach State Park, Surfside Beach is an approximately two-square mile area with large beaches, numerous vacation homes/vacation rental properties, hotels and resorts, several parks, and a wooden fishing pier.  It is home to about 4,500 year-round residents and is known for its cultural history dating back to 1765, though it was not incorporated until 1964. 

The next beach town moving south is Garden City Beach, an area of around 5.4 square miles and 10,000 year-round residents.  Similar to Surfside, Garden City has many vacation rental homes, resorts, inns and hotels, plus many options for shopping and dining.  It also has waterfront properties with private docks on the north end of Murrells Inlet, oceanfront homes, starter homes and canal-front residences, some of which offer beautiful sunset views.  

Murrells Inlet is a sleepy fishing village that is often associated with the Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk, an approximately half-mile stretch of boardwalk with several marinas and boat slips, a boat launch and many seafood restaurants.  Easy access to the ocean via the body of water for which it was named makes the area perfect for anyone who loves boating, fishing or fresh local seafood.  With a historic district, miles of available coastline, several country clubs and approximately 7.4 square miles of space, Murrells Inlet hosts a variety of real estate offerings, including golf course properties, starter homes and vacation rental properties, as well as lake-front and marsh-front homes with views and private docks. 

Things to Do in Surfside Beach/Garden City/Murrells Inlet 

Aside from the chance to spend the day at a waterpark, an arcade, a go-kart track, escape room or mini-golf course, the areas of Surfside Beach/Garden City/Murrells Inlet offer numerous opportunities for sun bathing, swimming, kayaking or walking on the beach.  There are many options for nightlife and/or live music in Surfside Beach, Garden City and Murrells Inlet.  The surrounding areas also boast numerous golf courses, and any surfer will recognize Garden City for the iconic surf shop located there, which has been in continuous operation since 1969.   

Located south of Murrells Inlet is Huntington Beach State Park, site of the former winter vacation spot for a railroad tycoon from the 1930s, Archer Milton Huntington, and his wife, Anna Hyatt Huntington.  The couple built a sprawling, Mediterranean-style mansion, Atalaya, on what would eventually become the state park, to use for a winter home and a studio for Mrs. Huntington, who was an award-winning sculptor.  The remains of its 30 rooms can still be toured today. 

Located directly across Highway 17 from Huntington Beach State Park, Brookgreen Gardens is a 9,100-acre property that Anna Hyatt Huntington used as a sculpture garden, along with other artists.  Today, Brookgreen includes a number of themed gardens, a nature preserve, hiking trails, art galleries, a zoo and an annual holiday lights show.
