Over a decade later, the New Years Day Dolphin Dip at Surf City is now America’s biggest New Year’s Day Swim Event. From a group of 20 to last year’s crowd of over 5,000 participants, the event has brought the community together while raising funds for various organizations.Brian has a big heart for giving and inspires others to do the same. There is no cost to participate in the event, but it raises about $10,000 every year. Brain selects a different nonprofit to honor each year, trying to spread it around because there are “so many wonderful charities”. In the past, funds have supported Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity, and Hope for the Warriors.With a passion for giving and helping, Brian Moxey advocates for many local organizations, including United Way of the Cape Fear Area and for the YMCA as a PPD Beach 2 Battleship Triathlon director. This year, Brian and his family were honored by the Karen Beasley Turtle Hospital when they named a rescued cold-stunned turtle Moxey. Moxey was released this June with much fanfare.
