As director of public relations for Olan Mills’ funded Wachesaw Plantation, Murrells Inlet, SC, Cal launched public relations activity for this successful, first-ever, private upscale Intracoastal Waterway residential community.
Harrelson’s education includes Heathwood Hall Episcopal School and The University of South Carolina, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. During college, Harrelson worked with The Keenan Company Real Estate in its commercial real estate division.
Harrelson’s professional experience has ranged from regional and national marketing/business development of upscale real estate developments, investment, and second-homes; to building tourism trade for resort communities; strengthening public identity/posture and building new business for clients; increasing customer traffic for retail establishments; and to the giving of his time for the betterment of his community. Cal and his Clemson Tiger wife, Julie, are parents of a son who has taken to his Dad’s love of hunting, fishing, mountain-biking, Boykin Spaniels, hiking, and the noticing of all things small in the woods and in life. Calhoun, a South Carolina (and Horry County) native, appreciates all aspects of South Carolina, having lived in the South Carolina Midlands, Upstate, and along the beautiful South Carolina Coast. Cal’s family moved to the Coast in 1924, after which his Grandfather became the first Mayor of Myrtle Beach in 1938; and his dad was publisher of the Myrtle Beach Times, a weekly paper and precursor to the Sun News.
